European aviation giant Airbus reached a deal with Chinese authorities on Thursday to open a second assembly line for its A320 aircraft in the city of Tianjin, effectively doubling its production capacities from the second half of 2025.
The "general terms agreement" was signed by Airbus Chief Executive Guillaume Faury during a ceremony in Beijing that came amid a state visit by French President Emmanuel Macron. Airbus also agreed to sell 160 aircraft to China, however, additional details of the order were not disclosed during the event.
"As the Chinese market continues to grow, it makes perfect sense for us to produce locally for Chinese airlines, and probably other customers in the region," Faury said.
