At least six people lost their lives amid wildfires on the Hawaiian island of Maui, local officials said on Wednesday.
"I'm sad to report that just before coming on this, it was confirmed we've had 6 fatalities," Maui Mayor Richard Bissen told reporters during a news conference. "We are still in a search and rescue mode," he added.
Officials also said that at least another 20 people sustained serious burns and thousands more were left without power, while numerous people were forced to be evacuated from their homes.
