California and Illinois joined New York in issuing state of emergency declarations amid a rising number of monkeypox cases.
California Governor Gavin Newsom (pictured) said the proclamation is meant to boost the state's vaccine efforts and help combat the outbreak. "California is working urgently across all levels of government to slow the spread of monkeypox," he stated.
As of Monday, the US reported over 6,000 cases of the rapidly spreading virus, with the highest number of infections confirmed in New York and California.
