Beijing's Special Envoy on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun urged the United Nations (UN) to hold a special meeting on the situation in Gaza, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a summary of the Cairo Peace Summit published on Sunday.
"The United Nations should promote the convening of a more authoritative, more influential and larger-scale international peace conference as soon as possible, build international consensus on promoting peace, and promote an early comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue," the ministry said.
According to the department, Zhai also reaffirmed China's commitment to the two-state model as the "fundamental way out to resolve the recurring conflict between Palestine and Israel."
