Congressional Democrats gave the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) an April 23 deadline to hand over documents on the United States President Donald Trump's taxes. Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, Richard Neal (pictured center) revised the previous timeframe of April 10, which was ignored by the White House, and warned the IRS that the refusal to comply with the request would be interpreted as "denial of [his] request."
Under federal law, Neal is the only lawmaker in the House of Representatives authorized to request individual tax information of the US officials. Republican lawmakers have decried his latest demand.
Earlier, the media reported that House Oversight and Reform Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings will also subpoena Trump's financial records.
