The government of the Netherlands collapsed on Friday after failing to reach an agreement on limiting the influx of asylum seekers, broadcaster NOS reported.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte's People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) and the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) wanted to make limit the influx of migrants, but other parties in the government D66 and ChristenUnie opposed the plan.

According to the report, a snap election is likely to take place in October.
