United States National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said that China's absence from the Ukraine peace summit in Switzerland is "not a positive sign for China's commitment to a just peace in Ukraine." Beijing insisted that a peace conference must include both Ukraine and Russia.

"The fact [China] is siding with Russia on this issue, I think is not a positive development," Sullivan told PBS, adding that Russia is getting "more and more extreme in its demands." He said that Ukraine's negotiating position has improved following the summit attended by 101 countries and organizations, most of which agreed with Ukraine's position in the war with Russia.
