International Basketball Federation (FIBA) announced on Tuesday that all Russian teams and officials will be banned from participating in FIBA basketball and 3x3 basketball competitions "until further notice."
"FIBA remains very concerned by the recent events in Ukraine and expresses its deepest sympathies to the victims... FIBA will communicate any further decisions taken by the Central Board at its meeting on March 25, as well as by FIBA's European Zone bodies in the next coming days," the organization said in a statement.
The International Olympic Committee Executive Board recommended yesterday that Russian and Belarusian athletes be banned from international competitions despite saying that "the Olympic Movement is united in its sense of fairness not to punish athletes for the decisions of their government."
