The French Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 3.1% in January, according to a preliminary report by the country's statistical office INSEE published on Wednesday. The figure is down from December's annual inflation rate of 3.7%.
The decrease in the inflation rate is expected to come as a result of a slowdown in energy, food and manufactured goods prices. On the other hand, prices of services and tobacco are estimated to have accelerated.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices were seen declining 0.2%, while the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices rose 3.4% year on year and decreased 0.2% month on month.
