French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal on Sunday called on the French people to "stop" the far right from gaining the absolute majority in the second round of legislative elections, stressing that "not a single vote should go to the National Rally."
"The lesson we can learn tonight is that the extreme right is at the gates of power. Never in our democracy has the situation been so dominated by the extreme right," Attal pointed out.
According to the first projections, the National Rally won 34% of the votes in the first round of elections, after voter turnout reached its highest level in 38 years.
