French Senate approved President Emmanuel Macron's controversial pension reform plan with 195 votes in favor and 112 against.

The main modification brought by the bill is the raising of the retirement age by two years to 64. The document is now to be reviewed by a joint committee of lower and upper house lawmakers next week and then submitted to a final vote in both chambers.

On January 19 alone, over 80,000 demonstrators gathered in the streets of Paris to protest against the legislative act, with the next demonstrations scheduled for Wednesday.
