Investigators from the United States Federal Trade Commission started probing Facebook Inc.'s internal documents and disclosures over whether the company knew its products had ill effects, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.
According to the report, officials are investigating whether Facebook violated the terms of its settlement agreement with the agency over privacy concerns. Moreover, they are trying to determine whether the social media giant covered its own research into the negative aspects of its platforms.
Facebook responded to the report saying that it was "always ready to answer regulators’ questions and will continue to cooperate with government inquiries," while previously noting that the above claims have been mischaracterized.
