Google will introduce its artificial intelligence multimodal Gemini to Android smartphones, starting with its latest Pixel 8 Pro which will run Gemini Nano, a version of the model tailored for smaller devices, the company announced on Wednesday.
The new AI feature will bring two updates, Summarize in Recorder and Smart Reply in Gboard. With Gemini Nano now operating on-device, its models will also "unlock" enhanced capabilities for the Assistant with Bard experience on Pixel in early 2023, Google said. In addition, the company will also roll out updates on other Pixel gadgets, including the Pixel Watch and Pixel Tablet.
"Gemini Nano running on Pixel 8 Pro offers several advantages by design, helping prevent sensitive data from leaving the phone, as well as offering the ability to use features without a network connection," Google Pixel's Vice President of Product Management Brian Rakowski stated.
