Turkish National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar (pictured) noted on Saturday that the grain Joint Coordination Center (JCCC) has made significant contributions to overcoming the food crisis, underlining its operation will help reduce the prices of food.
Speaking at the joint press conference with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, he revealed that a total of 51 ships carrying grain had departed since the beginning of August, with 27 ships coming from Ukrainian ports. Regarding the agreement on the grain initiative, the defense minister added, "It also builds the foundation for a permanent peace environment" between Moscow and Kiev.
In accordance with the grain corridor agreement, the Joint Coordination Center in Istanbul was opened in July to safeguard export shipments from Ukrainian Black Sea ports to the world market.
