Hamas releases 2 US hostages for 'humanitarian reasons'

Hamas' Al-Qassam Brigades spokesperson Abu Obeida announced on Friday the release of two American nationals, who have been held in captivity for two weeks, citing "humanitarian reasons."

The two United States citizens, a mother and her daughter, have been released to "prove" to the American people and the world that the accusations made by President Joe Biden and his "fascist administration" are "false" and "baseless," the spokesperson said in a Telegram post.

Namely, around 200 people are believed to have been taken hostage by Hamas in the Gaza Strip during the escalation of tensions on October 7. The US president paid a visit to Israel earlier this week in an act of support amid the cross-border clashes between Israeli Defense Forces and Hamas. Israel previously noted that the eradication of Hamas is the "first" and "last" priority.
