House passes spending bill, avoids shutdown

United States House of Representatives voted in favor of the spending bill aimed at keeping the government running past the Friday deadline. The bill was previously adopted in the Senate with an 83-16 majority. The bill will be sent to US President Donald Trump, who indicated he will sign it, although he said he will also declare a national emergency in order to obtain more funds for the wall on the Mexican border.

The bill will avert another shutdown and will keep the government funded until September 30. However, the bipartisan legislation provided only around $1.4 billion for the border wall, prompting Trump to say he is "not thrilled" about the deal. The president is expected to announce the national emergency on Friday despite widespread condemnation from Democratic lawmakers and some Republicans.
