Lawmakers from the upper chamber of the United States Congress gathered enough votes on Thursday for the bipartisan legislative package that prevents another government shutdown, following a partial one until January 25 which was the longest in history. The seven spending bills, which enable border security funding, were supported by 83 senators, against 16 against the proposition.
The White House said President Donald Trump would sign the government funding bill, but that he would also "take other executive action – including a national emergency." Press Secretary Sarah Sanders claimed the decision is aimed to "stop the national security and humanitarian crisis at the border."
The House of Representatives is due to vote next.
