EPA-EFE/SUPREME LEADER'S OFFICE HANDOUT

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Tuesday during a meeting with some of the country's officials that Tehran is neither "overly pessimistic" nor "overly optimistic" about the nuclear deal talks with the United States.

He called for the continuation of negotiations. "After all, this is an action that has been well-executed in the first steps. Of course, we are very pessimistic about the other side, but we are optimistic about our own capabilities," the Iranian leader added.

Washington and Tehran held their first discussions on the potential nuclear deal after a long time last Saturday, with the next meeting coming on April 19.
