Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar (pictured) stated on Monday that he was "surprised and disappointed" that no deal has been agreed between the European Union and the United Kingdom concerning Britain's departure from the bloc, adding that his government had agreed to a draft text regarding Irish border with Northern Ireland. However, Varadkar admitted that UK Prime Minister Theresa May is negotiating in "good faith" and "has a lot on her plate." "I do trust the PM (May) and I am happy to allow her more time if that is what is needed. And there is more time," Varadkar told reporters at a press conference.
Irish prime minister stressed that the most difficult issue in the talks between the EU and UK is Dublin's desire to preserve an open border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, adding that his country has no "hidden agenda" regarding the northern part of the Island. However, he stated that a significant progress has been made in recent negotiations, including on the continuation of the Good Friday Agreement, the Commons Travel Area and Ireland's membership of the EU.
