The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reiterated that its troops had nothing to do with attacking the convoy of aid trucks which resulted in over 100 Palestinians being killed.
According to IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari, IDF's preliminary examination of the incident concluded that the majority of Palestinian casualties were caused by a stampede, not a strike on the aid convoy. He added that warning shots were fired to disperse the crowd and that after forces retreated, they responded to looters who posed an immediate threat.
This version sharply contradicts Gaza health officials' account, which claims that Israeli forces opened fire, resulting in at least 116 deaths. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas labeled it an "ugly massacre" and many foreign governments denounced the alleged shooting of civilians seeking food, calling for a probe.
