An Israeli airstrike on Beirut supposedly targeted senior Hezbollah official Hashem Safieddine, widely seen as the heir of the group's slain leader Hassan Nasrallah, Axios reporter Barak Ravid said on X, citing two unnamed Israeli officials.
It remains unclear whether Safieddine survived the strike. An Israeli official told Ravid that the head of Hezbollah's Executive Council "was in a bunker deep underground."
Meanwhile, eyewitnesses told Sputnik that the Israeli military carried out about 20 strikes on the Laylaki neighborhood adjacent to Beirut International Airport late Thursday.
