Johnson: Putin never intended to opt for diplomacy

United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Saturday that Russian President Vladimir Putin's claims he was open to a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine situation were a "charade."

"He never really intended to alter his course," Johnson stated and added Putin has "a weird, semi-mystical view of Ukraine as part of Russia," insisting the Ukrainian people "passionately reject" that view.

Commenting on the course of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the UK prime minister stated that "things are not going all the way of President Putin, very far from it." He also accused Russia of "terrible atrocities.
