Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley from San Francisco denied Tuesday the Federal Trade Commission's request for an injunction to prevent Microsoft from completing its acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
According to the decision issued by Judge Scott, "the Court finds the FTC has not shown a likelihood it will prevail on its claim this particular vertical merger in this specific industry may substantially lessen competition. To the contrary, the record evidence points to more consumer access to Call of Duty and other Activision content. The motion for a preliminary injunction is therefore denied."
Earlier in December, the Federal Trade Commission filed a lawsuit to block the deal. Then in June, the agency presented an injunction to prevent Microsoft from completing the acquisition before July 18. With this result, the agreement is now closer to being reached.
