Judge orders White House to reinstate AP access

PA/ANDREW GOMBERT

A United States federal judge on Tuesday ordered the White House to lift access restrictions placed on the Associated Press (AP).

Judge Trevor McFadden, appointed by President Donald Trump during his first term, issued a preliminary injunction requiring the White House to restore access to areas, including the Oval Office and Air Force One. The judge's decision allows AP journalists to resume covering events alongside other members of the press pool while the lawsuit proceeds.

The AP filed the lawsuit after the White House barred its reporters over the outlet's continued use of "Gulf of Mexico," rejecting the administration's preferred term, "Gulf of America," for the region.
