King Charles III of the United Kingdom accepted on Friday the country's outgoing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's resignation, the Buckingham Palace announced in a statement.
"The Right Honourable Rishi Sunak MP had an Audience of The King this morning and tendered his resignation as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury, which His Majesty was graciously pleased to accept," the official London residence of the UK's sovereigns added.
Later today, the monarch will ask Labour Party leader Keir Starmer to become the new British Prime Minister and form a government after winning the parliamentary elections by a landslide.
