French President Emmanuel Macron accepted on Thursday Prime Minister Michel Barnier's resignation and tasked him with managing current affairs until a successor is appointed.
"Michel Barnier ensures, with the members of the government, the handling of current affairs until the appointment of a new government," the text of the French presidency said.
The no-confidence motion, unprecedented since 1962, came amid deep political division in France. Macron will address the nation today at 8 pm local time.
