French President Emmanuel Macron called on the country's Prime Minister Gabriel Attal to remain as the head of the French government "for the time being" in order to "secure the stability of the country," the French presidency said on Monday.

Attal announced on Sunday that he will offer his resignation to the head of state after the pan-left alliance New Popular Front won the parliamentary election, taking 182 seats in the French National Assembly, while Macron's centrist party obtained 163 seats.

However, the left-wing coalition did not win an absolute majority, so its representatives admitted that they would have to be open to negotiations with other political options in the country.
