French President Emmanuel Macron said on Monday that the country faces a "new crisis" as the highly contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus continues to spread across the continent.
Given these circumstances, Macron urged French citizens to get vaccinated over the summer, adding that "we will probably have to think about the mandatory vaccination of all French citizens at some point." For the time being, the French leader announced mandatory vaccinations for all healthcare workers.
"If we do not act today, the number of cases will continue to increase," Macron underlined before proceeding to announce new measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 in France.
