United States House Speaker Kevin McCarthy told the media that the Republican members of the lower congressional chamber will seek a vote on 12 appropriations bills they seek to include in the new funding bill.
"I think we've made some progress to those who have been holding up passing the rule to get on to these bills," McCarthy remarked. "We've got members working, and hopefully we'll be able to move forward on Tuesday to pass these bills."
The GOP and the Democrats must reach a deal on the funding by October 1 to avoid a government shutdown. Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden blamed that potential outcome on "now a small group of extreme Republicans" who "don't want to live up" to the previous agreement.
