Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Wednesday that she had an "excellent" conversation with United States President-elect Donald Trump, during which they talked over Mexico's "strategy on the migration phenomenon."

Sheinbaum added in a post on X that she told Trump that "caravans are not arriving at the northern border because they are being taken care of in Mexico." The talks came after Trump pledged on Monday to impose a 25% tariff on all products from Mexico and Canada, along with a 10% levy on Chinese goods, in an effort to crack down on illegal immigration and drugs coming into the US.

"We also discussed strengthening collaboration on security issues within the framework of our sovereignty and the campaign we are carrying out in the country to prevent the consumption of fentanyl," Sheinbaum shared.
