OpenAI announced Monday that it will extend its collaboration with Microsoft Corp. in order to continue what the company defined as "independent research" to develop AI. A previous report from Semafor said Microsoft was in talks with the artificial intelligence firm to invest $10 billion.
According to the company, Microsoft's investment has been critical to the performance and scale of AI. "Microsoft will increase their investment in these systems to accelerate our independent research, and Azure will remain the exclusive cloud provider for all OpenAI workloads across our research, API, and products," OpenAI commented.
For his part, Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO of Microsoft, emphasized how the two players shared a vision and ambition to develop "advance cutting-edge AI research and democratize AI as a new technology platform."
