Thousands of United States Army troops were deployed to the country's southern border two days after President Donald Trump announced such a move would be made, CNN reported on Wednesday, citing officials familiar with the issue.
According to the sources, the newly arrived servicemen will help the Border Patrol with their operations, both on-site and intelligence-related ones. They did not name the number of the troops sent or the units from which they were relocated.
Previously, the Joint Task Force-North based in El Paso, Texas, featured about 2,200 active duty members.
