Northern Ireland's Agriculture Minister Edwin Poots stated in a news conference on Wednesday that he has decided to order a cessation of all post-Brexit checks on goods arriving from Great Britain.
Poots, opposing the Northern Ireland Protocol that seeks to regulate trade between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK, said he had consulted with legal sources and came to the conclusion that such regulatory steps should not be established without confirmation from the regional government.
Poots also stated that he will "in the near future" look for a resolution of the trade regulation issue within the devolved government comprising his Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) and various rival parties who support the protocol agreed with the European Union.
