Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu extended his visit to Washington, as Axios reporter Barak Ravid said on Monday. His office cited "many requests" from US officials for meetings, with Netanyahu returning to Israel on February 8 night.

This visit to the US is seen as sign of the close relationship between the two administrations, marking the first time a foreign leader has met with US President Donald Trump since his return to office, which has included pro-Israel actions. Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with Trump on Tuesday.

Over the weekend, three Israeli hostages, including US citizen Keith Siegel, were released by Hamas. Netanyahu's extended stay means he will miss the fifth hostages' release, following those on January 19, 25, 30, and February 1.
