North Korea announced that it launched a new Hwasong-19 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on Thursday, aiming to demonstrate the country's "absolute" dominance in striking power, the Korean Central News Agency reported.
The missile achieved a peak altitude of 7,687.5 kilometers, covering a distance of 1,001.2 kilometers over a flight duration of 5,156 seconds, the state media shared. The launch of the intercontinental ballistic missile comes just days ahead of the presidential elections in the United States. Previously, North Korea warned that missiles could go over the Japanese archipelago if launched at the appropriate angle.
South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) reported that the missile was launched from the Pyongyang area, traveled about 1,000 kilometers, and landed in the East Sea.
