Importing oil is the secondary purpose of United States officials' visits to Iran, Venezuela, and Saudi Arabia, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said on Monday.
Talks with Saudis revolved around the war in Yemen, and the officials' trip to Venezuela was meant to ensure "health and welfare" of detained US citizens in the country, Psaki said during a press conference. The main purpose of intensified talks with Tehran is to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon, she added.
Psaki did admit that "energy security" and oil imports were discussed with representatives of all three countries.
