Kash Patel was sworn in as the new director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and officially assumed office. Patel was previously confirmed in his new position by the United States Senate in a narrow 51-49 vote on Thursday.
He was sworn into office by US Attorney General Pam Bondi. Patel, viewed as one of the key allies of incumbent President Donald Trump, promised that "there will be accountability within the FBI and outside FBI and we will do it through rigorous constitutional oversight starting this weekend."
Patel is a vocal critic of what he called the politically motivated weaponization of the justice system during the administration of former US President Joe Biden.
