The United States Senate voted 51-49 on Thursday to confirm Kash Patel as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) director.
Senators Susan Collins from Maine and Lisa Murkowski from Alaska were the only two Republicans to vote against Patel, with Murkowski stating on X that her reservations with Patel stem from his previous political activities, which "may influence his leadership."
Patel's nomination was previously backed by the US Senate Judiciary Committee in a 12-10 vote, that allowed the bid to move to the Senate floor.
