United States Department of Defense authorized the transfer of $1.5 billion in funds for the wall on the US-Mexico border. According to the statement, the money will be used to build over 120 miles of border barrier.

"The funds were culled from a variety of sources, to include unexecuted prior year funds, the suspension of reimbursements to Pakistan, and costs reductions in a series of contracts," said Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan. He added that the Pentagon will not reprogram any more money for the wall. US media reported that some of the funds came from personnel accounts, as well as a program aimed at training and equipping Afghan security forces. However, Shanahan insisted the changes will not impact readiness.
