United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha met in Warsaw on Thursday to discuss the denuclearization of North Korea and the upcoming summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
US State Department stated that the talks focused on "ongoing efforts to achieve the final, fully verified denuclearization," while South Korean Foreign Ministry added that the top diplomats discussed ways to ensure the Trump-Kim meeting later this month is successful. Pompeo noted that he and Kang also discussed their countries' "trilateral relationship with Japan, and collaborating on shared interests in the Indo-Pacific."
Earlier, Pompeo expressed hope Trump and Kim will make "real progress" on the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula when they meet in Hanoi, Vietnam, later this month.
