Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that he would be ready to agree to a proposal for a month-long ceasefire in Ukraine, but only if it would lead to "long-term" peace.
Speaking after a meeting with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko, Putin stressed that any ceasefire agreement would also have to result in "something that would remove the initial reasons for the crisis" in Ukraine. However, he noted that the "issues of control and verification" during the 30-day ceasefire proposed by the United States and agreed by Ukraine are still "unclear."
The Russian president added that he may call American President Donald Trump to discuss the ceasefire proposal. Earlier reports said that such a call could take place on Friday, while Putin is set to meet Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff later today.
