The New York Attorney General's Office announced on Tuesday that it had rejected a request from President-elect Donald Trump's legal team to dismiss the civil business fraud case against the 78-year-old politician and businessman.

"The ordinary burdens of civil litigation do not impede the President's official duties in a way that violates the U.S. Constitution," Deputy Solicitor General Judith Vale wrote in the letter. "Presidents do not have immunity from civil lawsuits arising from unofficial conduct, and such lawsuits may proceed while the President is in office," Vale added.

In November, Trump's Defense Attorney John Sauer argued in a letter to the attorney general's office that proceeding with the case would hinder the president-elect from fulfilling his duties.
