Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is likely to announce his exit from the race by the end of this week, insiders told ABC News on Wednesday.

Sources familiar with the matter suggest that Kennedy might endorse Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, though this decision has not yet been finalized. An insider revealed that Kennedy might announce his decision this week in an effort to overshadow the Democratic National Convention.

The 70-year-old politician is expected to address the nation about "the present historical moment" and "his path forward" on August 23 at 2 pm ET, his press secretary Stefanie Spear announced earlier.
