Iranian President Hassan Rouhani confirmed on Wednesday that he does not accept Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif 's letter of resignation, IRNA reported. According to the president, he refused to accept the minister's resignation "in contradiction to the interests of the country."
On Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasemi said that Zarif's decision to step down was yet not approved by Rouhani.
Zarif announced on Monday his resignation on his Instagram account. Meanwhile, the Iranian leader thanked Zarif yesterday for "his ability to stand in the face of pressure and confrontation."
