United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi met in Washington, where they discussed how their respective countries might jointly "counter ongoing threats in the Indo-Pacific and around the world," according to a readout published by the State Department.
During the meeting, the two officials also talked of "joint efforts against China's destabilizing actions." They went on to share their concerns over North Korea's "political and security alignment" with Russia, as well as China's "support for Russia's defense industrial base."
Rubio emphasized "enduring US commitment to the US-Japan Alliance as the cornerstone of security and prosperity in the region."
