Russian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday accused Ukraine of being behind the destruction of the Kakhovka dam, claiming that it was part of Kiev's pre-planned "terrorist" act.
"It was planned in advance and purposefully by the Kiev regime for military purposes as part of the so-called counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the Russian Foreign Ministry said. "The Russian side initiates the consideration of this crime of the Kiev regime in the UN Security Council," the ministry added.
The destruction of the dam is said to have caused irreparable damage to the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant on the Dnieper River. Meanwhile, Washington said that Moscow is likely responsible for the attack.
