Russian President Vladimir Putin signed on Monday a decree on special economic measures against the United States and its allies in retaliation for their sanctions against Moscow.

The measures include banning forex operations from Russian residents to non-residents. Russia stressed the measures were introduced to "counter unfriendly actions of the United States of America and other foreign states."

Earlier, the US and its allies, including the European Union and the United Kingdom, imposed several batches of sanctions against Moscow in response to its military operation in Ukraine.
