The Russian Foreign Ministry urged Washington on Tuesday to refrain from taking actions that threaten "regional stability" and "international security" and "to recognize the new geopolitical reality, in which there is no longer room for American hegemony."

"We view her visit as a clear provocation in the spirit of the US aggressive line of comprehensive containment of the PRC (People's Republic of China)," the ministry commented on US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan. The foreign ministry reiterated that the country's principled position on Taiwan remains unchanged, underscoring that it is "an inalienable part of China."

Earlier, in response to Pelosi's visit to Taipei, China announced a series of military operations surrounding Taiwan, emphasizing that the US had violated the one-China principle by proceeding with the trip.
