A Moscow court on Tuesday extended the detention of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, who was arrested for espionage in March and is currently awaiting trial.

The court decided in a hearing held behind closed doors, as authorities consider details of the case to be confidential, that Gershkovich will remain in jail until January 30, 2024.

Gershkovich was detained while in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg. According to the authorities, the reporter had been operating following US instructions and had collected information about a company that is part of the Russian military-industrial complex.
