South Korean President Moon Jae-in has granted pardon to former President Park Geun-hye (pictured), currently serving a 22-year sentence after being charged with corruption, South Korea's Justice Ministry announced in a statement.
In March 2017, Park became the nation's first leader to be impeached and removed from office after being faced with13 criminal charges, ranging from bribery to abuse of power.
The former head of government is to be released from prison on December 31.
